ABOUT THE FILM

What is Next Friday: Magical Meow Meow?
NFMMM, or NFM3, is a student-made thesis film co-directed by Jen Nguyen and Mary Ramos, who came up with the idea over the summer of 2025. This film was done during our third year of college, where we focused on pre-production in the fifth semester, and production + post-production in the sixth semester-- completing the film in just under 8 months! The film is inspired by the early 2000's nostalgia, with an original soundtrack by G1RLSONA and Liynn Sum.What audience is NFMMM intended for?
Our target audience is kids, and young adults that grew up in the 2000s, but it's an enjoyable watch for everyone and their families. We love seeing so many different ages showing such great love and support to the pilot! The show would be rated PG.Who are the main characters?
Salem Mittens is a 16 year old highschooler living in 'Torontokyo'. She attends Mystic Star Acatemy, where she is training to be a magical girl. Her magical comb transforms into a chain and mace, which she uses to battle with her classmates for class/exams.Daisy Whisker Mittens is Salem's 5 year old little sister. She looks up to her older sister and wants to play with her all the time! When using Salem's comb, it transforms into a hammer.Gabby Zilla is a 16 year old kauji living Torontokyo, who also attends Mystic Star Acatemy. She's a girl's girl, and loves making friends! She does not own a weapon, as she can simply erupt an atomic blast.Why do the characters wear white collars with pink bows?
This is the school uniform at Mystic Star Acatemy! The collars and bows come in different shapes and sizes!Will there be more episodes?

Yes! We are currently working with volunteers that have reached out to us to do official subs and dubs in multiple languages. If you're interested in helping, please contact us directly at [email protected].Can I reupload the episode on my own account?
No. Please do not reupload the full film on your own socials, even if you've dubbed it into another language. While we appreciate the support, we rely on views and engagement on our official channels to support the project and help fund future releases!Exceptions are made if you're sharing a reaction video to the pilot with full credit, we love seeing those! You're welcome to reshare the official upload or contact us if you'd like to discuss authorized ways to distribute a dubbed version.

ABOUT THE TEAM + DEVELOPMENT

How many people worked on NFMMM?
Our Kitty Krew had a core team of 15 people, with 20+ "helpers" across all departments.What software did the team use?
We primarily used Procreate, Photoshop, ToonBoom Harmony Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Pro Tools Studio.Is NFMMM 2D animated?
Yes, most of the film is done with 2D Harmony rigs, but we have a few shots with mixed rigged and hand drawn animation, very few shots fully hand drawn, and some 3D animated (dream sequence and UFO). The end credits feature real handmade felt puppets for Salem and Daisy. The entire film from start to finish was created by our Kitty Krew, no AI was used.How did the team communicate?
We worked with a hybrid schedule-- in person meetings and working on campus, and using Discord for online communication and organization. We used SyncSketch and Flow (aka Shotgrid) to manage and keep track of shot progression and provide feedback.

Can we make fanart and fan OCs for the NFMMM world?
Of course!! We would love to see, please tag us if you post them! Next Friday takes place in a cat world, focusing on Torontokyo, which is mainly habited by cats and some kaijus. Dogs exist, but they are all aliens. The alien dog seen in the pilot is a foreign exchange student. Though, feel free to be creative and make whatever you'd like! The team loves seeing the work everyone makes!Can we upload shorter clips of the film on our own accounts?
Yes! As long as you're not uploading the full film, this includes uploading it in parts, it's ok. We love gathering all the fan edits, gifs, and memes with clips from the film and sharing it with the team!Can I make NFMMM merch?
Generally speaking, no. If you're making small merch, such as stickers, and giving them away for free, that's ok. Otherwise, no.
